The LM56 is a precision low power thermostat. This integrated circuit features: Microprocessor Thermal Management, Portable Battery Powered 3.0V or 5V Systems, Fan Control, Remote Temperature Sensing, and Electronic System Protection.
The following circuit diagram shows the Simple Fan Controller Circuit Board Design using LM56. This circuit design senses system temperature and turns a cooling fan on when the sensors temperature exceeds a pre-selected value. This circuit turns on a 12V cooling fan when the LM56’s temperature exceeds 50°C. OUT2 goes low when the temperature reaches 70°C. The comparator outputs are open collector, so OUT2 will need a pull-up resistor if it is to drive a logic input.
